Error Uninstalling the Pro 6.0 Client Setup from Add/Remove Programs

When an installation becomes damaged and new components need to be loaded from the original .msi file and the file is not available an error will occur stating that the .msi file cannot be found or is on a network resource that is unavailable.  This occurs if the .msi file is manually removed from c:\windows\download installations.  To fix this problem use the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility…

Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility here:

Scroll to the section that says “More Information” and then click on the link labeled “Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility package now.”

This will download an executable to be installed on that computer. The executable is named msicuu2.exe. Once this file is downloaded, double click on the file to launch the installation (this is not the utility itself but installs the utility).

Once the program is installed, it creates an icon in the Programs menu called “Microsoft Install Clean-up”. Click on the Start button – Programs – Microsoft Install Clean-up.

Look for the Design Manager Client installation in the list of programs and select Remove (note that the list of programs may not be in alphabetical order).

Once the Design Manager Client setup has been completely removed from the Workstation, it can then be re-installed.

If the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility does not successfully remove the program:

Make sure that the user has proper rights to install and uninstall programs on the local workstation.

Check to see if the user is logging into the workstation as a member of a domain controller.  If they are a member of the domain, then temporarily promote the user to an Administrator in the domain.  Re-boot the workstation, log in as the user, run the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and remove the Design Manager Client.  Assuming it now removes successfully, run the Client setup, see here.  Test DM to make sure it works and then change the users rights back to normal on the domain.  Make sure the user has proper rights to the DM directory, see here.
